Grade With Us
What is Grading?
Card grading began in the early 1990’s by PSA as a means to protect and potentially enhance the value of your cards. By 1998, this process took off during the home run chase between McGwire and Sosa. Until recent years, there were three reputable companies providing grading services: Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA), Beckett Grading Services (BGS), and Sportscard Guaranty (SGC). In the past couple of years, new start-ups have joined the fray, with the most reputable being Certified Sports Guaranty (CSG) and Forensic Card Grading (FCG). For someone new to grading, it can be stressful to decide what the best option is for your collectibles. Which company? What cards should I grade? How do they grade? We are here to help! We have years of review and professional grading experience to help educate you!
What should you grade?
To answer that, you should first ask yourself this: Is this for investment purposes, personal collection or both? Being a former professional grader, I can tell you from personal experience, that the glut/backlog that the grading companies are experiencing is due to poor judgment in being diligent in selecting the right cards to grade. With the increase in cost to grade, For investment purposes. you must be diligent researching in the marketplace. It is best to stick with Vintage (pre-1975), Rookie and Star cards of key players, Autograph cards and numbered parallels or short-prints. If you are a true hobby collector and just want your favorite cards graded, then do it! It will protect them in the condition they are in!
